History and Birthdays for June 23, 2014

So here’s the deal. Since I don’t have time to do the history and birthday trivia items before my weekday morning devotions, I’m going to try to start doing that over here, in the evenings.

Who knows what may pop up over here?

It has only be a year to this date since Nik Wallenda made his high wire walk across the Little Colorado River Gorge near Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. He made the quarter-mile trip at about 1500 feet above the gorge on a 2-inch thick steel cable. He was not wearing a safety harness.

One year previous to that, he walked across Niagara Falls on a tightrope.

I wonder what he’ll do next?

It’s the birthday of Pharaoh Ptolemy XV of Egypt, Bob Fosse, June Carter Cash, James Levine, Randy Jackson, Tony Hill, K.T. Tunstall, Jason Mraz, and Duffy.

It’s also the birthday of writer and director Joss Whedon. Born in 1964, Whedon is responsible for several of this family’s favorite TV shows, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Serenity. He also directed the smash hit movie The Avengers, and had a part in the screen play of 1995’s Toy Story. He has many other credits to his name, including Cabin In the Woods a brilliant horror movie, and Much Ado About Nothing, a black and white rendering of Shakespeare’s play, set in modern times, but using the original words, written by Shakespeare.

Here is a trailer for his movie Cabin In the Woods.

Here’s a You Tube clip of K.T. Tunstall, covering “I Want You Back.”

Here’s Jason Mraz’s song “I’m Yours.”

And finally, here’s a clip of Duffy’s song “Mercy.”

TTFN, y’all!
