Rangers Sweep Red Sox

Really, Red Sox? 18-3??? REALLY???

Yes, indeed, that was the brutal truth after Tuesday night’s slugfest between the Red Sox and the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park. It started out innocently enough. The Sox struck first on a Dustin Pedroia Green Monster home run in the bottom of the first inning. 2-0. But the Rangers struck back quickly in the top of the second. Not to be outdone, Mike Napoli called Pedey’s home run and raised him Landsdown Street. Over the Monster. The Red Sox struck back…um…not. They kind of just laid there in confusion while the Rangers piled it on. The worst of it was the top of the eighth inning. The Rangers, obviously ignorant of the fact that the eighth inning is the time when the Red Sox explode, took it upon themselves to show Mark Melancon why he doesn’t belong in the bigs. How many home runs did the Rangers hit in that inning? 12? 10? 23? I lost count. I think it might have been four, actually. Two back to back by Hambino and Beltre…more later. I don’t know. I was laughing by the time it was over. Final body count was 18-3 (A-Gon hit a home run in the bottom of the eighth).

Wednesday night wasn’t much better, as the Rangers returned to win 6-3. Okay, it was a lot better…but still not good for the Sox. Beckett was so-so in this one. He was much better than Lester on Tuesday night. But the ‘pen still couldn’t hold the Rangers down.

I do like the Rangers…they are my second favorite team, behind the Red Sox. So when these two teams meet, I root for the Sox. It’s not quite as bad when the Sox lose to them. At least it wasn’t the Evil Empire beating them 18-3. That would have been crawl in a corner in the fetal position and suck my thumb territory, there…

Speaking of the Evil Empire, they return to Fenway park tomorrow, Friday, April 20 for the 100th anniversary of the opening of Fenway Park. It should be interesting, as the Evil Ones are not doing so well, themselves, this season.

The Rangers reenact the ALCS of last year, starting today, as they face the Tigers in Detroit. Darvish will pitch against some guy today, but Feliz is slated to face off against the Pitchernator on Saturday at noon. That could be a VERY interesting game.

TTFN, y’all!
