Well, it’s been a while since I’ve been here. Not necessarily because I didn’t have anything to say (when has that ever happened, right?), but because I’ve been kind of short on time. We had a power outage Sunday morning, which cut short my devotional time (you can read that blog HERE), and got me behind in my readings, as well. Monday mornings are always shorter because I have to go to work an hour earlier. I finally got caught up Tuesday morning, but right at the end of my time. So…today I have a little extra time.
We had a great birthday party for Stephanie and her best friend on Saturday at the bowling alley. I’m not sure how many people we had, but there were at least 10 people bowling on three lanes. There were several kids who did not bowl, and a few adults that hung around as well. There was cookie cake, pizza, and soft drinks, and great fun was had by all. And even though we told people that gifts were not expected, they brought them anyway. Mostly, the gifts were gift cards. One very special guest showed up, Stephanie’s “mentor” from school. They have this program where an adult comes up and just spends an hour with her, on average, about once a week. This lady is very special to Stephanie and, therefore, very special to us. We were so glad she could make it to the party. She gave Stephanie a Sonic gift card. Wonder how she knew Steph likes Sonic (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)? We were exhausted afterwards and basically came home and collapsed for the rest of the evening.
Sunday was very busy. We had church, of course, in the morning. Then Rachel and Justin came over for lunch (we went to Hoffbrau this time), after which we watched a couple of episodes of Masterchef (or Hell’s Kitchen…I can’t remember…something with Gordon Ramsay in it). Then we had to go back up to church for a meeting about getting involved with the worship ministry. This lasted a couple of hours, then Steph stayed there for the “Echo” group (that’s the youth group), while we went to Wal-Mart and got some stuff (it might have been birthday presents for you-know-who)(you-know-who sometimes reads this blog). We picked up Stephanie, argued about what was for dinner, went to McDonald’s and went home to crash again.
During all of this time, the Red Sox were losing to the Mariners. Seriously, they just didn’t seem to be able to beat them. Meanwhile, the Rangers swept the Athletics in Oakland, and have gone on to win the first two against the Angels in Anaheim. They currently have a six game lead in the ALW, having won five games in a row and eight of their last ten. The Sox won the first game of a double-header yesterday against the Desperate Housewives, but lost the second one. As a result, they are now half a game behind the Evil Empire in the ALE. They did manage to pull off a triple play in that second game, though. That was quite pretty to watch. And it was done the standard way, too, 5-4-3. Very sharp.
Not much else to say today. Gotta go get ready for work.
